| Centenary
- 30/10/2005
The Durban Children’s Homes celebrates it’s
Centenary this year. A Celebratory function has been planned
for the 29.10.05. Sponsorship from the South African Port
Operations has enabled us to provide a fun filled day for
400 people. Guests include representation from the Mayor’s
office, the children, youth and their families in our care
at present, present and past committee members, ex-residents
of our residential programme, funders, community members
and suppliers.
Renovations
- 30/10/2005
The extensive renovations to our 5 main buildings is nearing
completion. These renovations have been made possible by
a substantial grant from the National Lottery. The grant
has enabled us to paint all 5 buildings, replace rotten
timbers, attend to electrical and plumbing concerns and
see to roof leaks. The buildings range in age from 89 years
to 55 years. This project will extend the life of these
building and hence the life of our programmes.
Residential
Programme - 30/10/2005
Our Residential Programme is preparing to disengage with
20 children and young people who will be reunited with their
families at the end of the year. This amounts to one third
of our youth. The Siyakhula Substance Abuse Centre will
have 8 young people graduating from the programme in December
this year. We have sadly lost 2 staff members and one child
this year through illness.
Annual
Christmas Party - 30/10/2005
Our annual Christmas Party held for all the children and
youth in our care takes place on the 22 November. This event,
which has been sponsored by the catering company Fedics
over the past 10 years, is of course the highlight for the
children and youths year.
