This community based project provides direct child care services to child headed households in the area of Umbumbulu. Durban Children’s Homes partnered with the National Association of Child Care Workers in piloting this project as a model for working with vulnerable young people in communities whose lives have been affected by the AIDS pandemic.

Trained community members provide families with emotional and physical support, assist with direct child care tasks, as well as the protection of young people’s rights. They also assist on issues of accessing documents and social security grants.
